Tomoko Konae is a Japanese crochet artist / visual artist based in Denmark, who is educated in graphic design at Osaka University of Arts in Japan.

She started studying composition/songwriting at SHOBI music school and activity as a singer-songwriter in Tokyo after graduating from the university.  Moved to Denmark to obtain some experience with Danish music culture. During her temporary return to Japan after moving to Denmark, she found her grandmother’s knitting stuff in her house and started knitting and crocheting by self-study.

Her signature artwork, the Crochet wall sculpture, is composed of graphic shapes with polyester and different yarn materials. Sculptures are produced from a two-dimensional and graphic approach and come out as tridimensional shapes by crochet techniques.

デンマークを拠点に活動するかぎ針編み / ビジュアルアーティスト。

大阪芸術大学コミュニケーションデザイン学科を卒業後上京、尚美ミュージックカレッジにて作曲を学ぶ。東京でしばらく音楽活動を行ったのち、デンマークのミュージックシーンに興味を持ちデンマークへ移住。日本への短期帰国中に祖母の家で彼女の編みかけのベストを発見し、昔祖母から教えてもらった懐かしさからマフラーを編み始め、一気に編み物に夢中になりかぎ針編みも独学で始める。

Crochet Wall Sculptureと名付けた壁に掛ける作品は、ポリエステルや様々な素材の毛糸で編まれた立体の集合体で、平面的グラフィック的アプローチからかぎ針編みの技法によって立体作品へと昇華されている。

2022年デンマークのシャーロッテンボー春の展示会にて、832組の応募の中から38組の内に選ばれ展示する。
